The following are steps taken from a Blog site:
  • First install Windows 2003 Server with SP1
  • Run all security updates
  • Install Application Server (IIS, and NOT the frontpage extensions)
  • Install SQL Server 2005 standard edition or advanced edition
  • Reboot the machine
  • Download from the microsoft site WSS with SP2 and install it
  • Use the option, server farm
  • Create an application pool for WSS
  • Give that user enough right in SQL 2005
  • Insert your Microsoft Sharepoint Portal Server 2003 cd and install Microsoft Sharepoint Portal Server
  • Ignore the warning about unlinking of your excisting sites
  • Installation finish
  • Browser opens and fill al the question. Configure your topology
  • Now stops, update Microsoft Sharepoint Portal Server with SP2 (free download from
  • After update create a new portal
But now your sharepoint site is still running framework 1.1 When you select in IIS manager the tabpage ASP.NET and select there use asp 2.0 you get an error. It gives the error that the site is not ready for framework 2.0. Go to your sharepoint server and type the following in the BIN directory of sharepoint:

C:Program FilesCommon FilesMicrosoft Sharedweb server extensions60BIN>STSADM.EXE -o upgrade -forceupgrade

This can take a while, but after a couple of minutes, it should give you a succesful message. Now would I do this? Not really since its not supported and I can imagine there are quirks. As they say, use at own risk.
