As the week progresses the jet-lag is subsiding but am unfortunately fighting the flew. Though my colleagues indulged last night at the events I refrained from drinking so that I wouldn’t end up with another headache.

The Key Note this morning was interesting, Greg LeMond an American bicycle racer who was the first non-European rider to win the Tour de France, the most celebrated and challenging event in cycling. In his career Greg LeMond won the Tour de France three times (1986, 1989, 1990) and twice won the World Road Race Championship (1983, 1989). It was interesting to hear his story about his determination to win and overcoming obstacles.

The breakout sessions I attended were as follows:

  • Best of Windows Server 2008 and SQL Server 2008 for SharePoint Deployments – Joel Oleson; Bob Fox – Rated A. 2008 products have many advantages, run them through your change control and be the judge.
  • SharePoint tools for style: Advanced Techniques for Branding SharePoint – Heather Solomon (MVP) – Rated A. Great presentation and demo of how to brand SharePoint from a developers point of view. The demo reminded my of a project in Montreal back in 2003 when I had to brand the Intranet for a college there and no information was available at the time regarding how to.
  • Planning and Deploying SharePoint Products and Technologies and Solutions in Geographically-Distributed Scenarios – Dino Dato-on; Kimmo Forss – Rating C. Read the document and remember that peoples opinions are based on experience and the particular situation – you needs could be different.
  • Best Practices for SharePoint Solution Deployment – Ted Pattison – Rated A. Got the message, use features and WSP. A blog by Chris Johnson provides some great insight.

No parties tonight! A quiet night blogging and reading some white papers that I should have read months ago.
