One of my clients had an interesting problem, the first time a user accessed a site the page loads took up to 30 seconds. Having been a while since I was last onsite to help them I didn’t have much information regarding their configuration. I suggested the typical, network setup, blob cache and a few other things. I few days later I heard back and they had solved the problem. The fix they used can be found here. There is also another fix for this sort of problem which is as follows:

  • Go to IIS Manager
  • Open the Application Pools
  • Right click on the DefaultAppPool and go to properties
  • Go to the Performance Tab
  • Uncheck the top box – shutdown worker processes after being idle

I’m sure there are other fixes buty these seem to be the most common.
