So you chose a basic install for your single server installation and overtime you’ve reach the limits of SQL Express (i.e. 4GB DB size) or your proff of concept turned into a production system without you knowing about it.
Well you have a few options for solving this problem, two of the most common are listed here:
- In place upgrade – Upgrade your SQL Express Server to SQL Server 2005 using the setup command and a switch. Make sure you have a proven restore process and enough space on the server for working files.
- Migrate to a farm – Build a farm and move the SSP and content databases. Less risky and give you the change to do some cleanup.
